Pronunciation: AH-sah-el

His Place Among the Fallen Watchers

Tenth to Semihazah, and the most influential of all his followers. His name means “God has made.” Bound to the element of meteor iron.

What He Was Meant to Be

When first created, Asael held the definition “through the Word of His Power all element takes its form.” He could have been the elder element of the righteous workmanship of man’s hands — iron being the first of all manmade things fashioned from materials God Himself made. He could have been a superior force, teaching the language of repentance, so that all manmade objects would remind man to only make things as men, in the love the Son has for the Father. Had this held, no manmade object could have ever aided sin.

What He Chose Instead

Meteor iron is known as the most mystically powerful material from which weapons can be made, historically a favored material for assassins. Instead of his profound place in heaven, Asael chose the definition “man is superior to God in making things” — the more things made for evil, the more “man is progressing.” Because his impact on man has been so profound, God said, “Write upon Asael all sin.” From him came the teaching that, since God gave man these materials, it cannot be wrong to use them however one wishes.

What He Teaches

As elder of manmade things for evil, Asael teaches the making of iron swords and breastplates, and teaches mining — digging out of the ground the fallen watchers that God had buried. He teaches how to transform Holy Watchers into fallen ones — fashioning gold and silver into adornment being one example. He teaches cosmetics, precious stones, dyes, and pharmaceuticals, and is the master alchemist. He is master craftsman for dictators, invaders, looters, and thieves, and teaches the art of deceitful diplomacy. He is master of the misuse of element to lead man into the unforgivable sin, elder of the fulfillment of evil, and the enemy of protection. He is the god of money.

His Name Belial

Asael chose war and the beautification of women as his primary source of power in the earth. He set his place in creation and established the pit named Shakath, “and his new identity and name became Belial.” In the same vision, Semihazah’s new name became Satan (Moses 2:19). Later the Lord names them together: “And there is Asael who now is named Belial, and Semihazah who now is named Satan” (Moses 2:87).

A note on the name. The books do not agree on who bears the name Belial. Moses gives it to Asael (2:19, 2:87). Other passages give it to Semihazah: his list of names in I Achee (p. 38) and the Handbook (p. 553), and Melchizedek’s Little Book: “Semihazah is known as Belial during the tribulation times” (2:47) and “Semihazah who is Belial” (3:3).

The meaning of the word may be the clue. The Little Book ties Belial to Strong’s #1100 and #1097 and says “Belial will be shown to be a worthless failure” (2:48). Strong’s defines the Hebrew beliya’al as “without profit, worthlessness; by extension, destruction, wickedness.” The Handbook teaches that “the Hebrew language defines the feelings” of the life in creation (Handbook, p. 27), and the names of the watchers “came from what they felt, not words” (Grandmothers, p. 393). Read this way, Belial names a feeling, worthlessness, that could describe either of them. The difference may also be an editing error. Both readings are given here as written, so the reader can weigh them.

Shakath, the Bottomless Pit

Those who utterly reject the forgiveness of Anokeesed depart downward into “a place called Shakath, which is the bottomless pit, and Asael presides over Shakath.” Semihazah is afraid to go there, “because his base ignorance cannot compete with the cunning and deceptions practiced there against the righteous and the Most High” (Moses 1:46).

Asael and his cohort in Shakath gather intelligence while in the company of expressions of righteousness. This is how a person can be opposed in their generations before they are born, and why the righteous must see that there is no contention or discord among them (Moses 2:118). Discord was also their entry point in the family of Jacob, bringing about the death of Rachel (Moses 5:59).

The First Niphilim

Lamech took Adah away and “wrought upon her his evil designs which Asael had taught him,” and she conceived the first Niphilim child born upon the earth (Grandmothers 4:69).
