His Place Among the Fallen Watchers

Ninth to Semihazah. Bound to the element identified as Law of Man. His name means “the gleaming sword of God.”

What He Was Meant to Be

When first created, Baraqiel held the definition “the Law of God brings virtue that never changes.” He could have been the primary influence over man to be virtuous and to worship a God who never changes, helping virtue pass from one generation to the next, and endearing the hearts of children to their fathers.

What He Chose Instead

Baraqiel chose the definition “man is the only source of law and order; change oppresses the best.” Because of this, virtue now shifts with each generation, and law changes daily along with it. He waits for just the right moment to oppress and calls it “order” — what evil calls “the signs of the thunders.”

What He Teaches

Baraqiel teaches the signs of the thunders, and teaches how to oppress under the name of “order,” glorifying and empowering men to become kings and rulers. He rebelled against the Law of Jeshurun and became the leader of those who make themselves a law unto their own. He is master of locks and prisoners, teaches intimidation, and is master of the hopeless. He teaches nationalism and the worship of banners, and is the enemy of all things common.
