Pronunciation: JOH-zuf
His Place Among the High Priests
Joseph is ninth in the order of the 24 High Priest Communities. He is brother to the Rain. His Watcher is Bawrakel, “God has blessed,” who teaches patience.
What He Established
Joseph established the bonding of one generation to another. Through this, he allowed Christ to have prophets and a people with a spiritual heritage — or, more simply said, to have prophets.
What Joseph Named the Lord
At Achee 3:137, Joseph names Messiah “The God of our fathers.”
Sold, Not Slain
Dan intended to kill Joseph, but Judah and Naphtali, seeing a caravan approach, sold him instead, planning to buy him back before their father’s anger passed. When Dan discovered Joseph had been sold rather than killed, he swore the brothers to silence, killed a kid, and stained the coat of many colors with its blood to deceive their father. That same coat had been used before the altar as the element of righteousness, showing forth the surety of Messiah’s birth among their people.
Overseer of the Treasury
Rising to overseer of the king’s treasury in Egypt, Joseph set a rule that he alone would receive payment from any traveler coming from a distant land for food — hoping, by this means, to discover if his father’s household might one day come into the land.
The Reunion
Israel grieved the loss of Joseph for fourteen years before his heart was comforted. When the family was reunited, Israel gathered his whole house and journeyed to the far country, and all became hirelings of the king under Joseph. In affirming his father’s vision, Joseph established that Israel was the first prophet of God and secured the righteousness of Jeshurun on their behalf.
