Pronunciation: muh-TAIR-ee-el
His Place Among the Fallen Watchers
Twelfth to Semihazah. His name means “rain of God.” Bound to the element of mercury.
What He Was Meant to Be
When first created, Matariel held the definition “the wind is the breath of God and the weather is one continual round of blessings.” He could have been an elder of the wind, a significant force bringing the Spirit to man through the changing seasons.
What He Chose Instead
Matariel rebelled and took on the definition that “the weather must be subdued and overcome, for it is an enemy of man.” He is now the father of pleasure, supporting guilt and shame, and causes people to want to escape normal weather and the seasons.
What He Teaches
Matariel is master of erosion, barren places, and deserts. He teaches the glamour of sun tans and nude bathing, and is elder of the lust of nudity. He taught the hatred of weather and fear of cloudy days. He is master of pornography and god of the living dead. Matariel is the enemy of chastity and purveyor of depression.
