Pronunciation: SHEM
Who He Is
Shem, son of Noah, is the man the Lord’s people know as Melchizedek, who established the Covenant of Shabuwa with his wife Zedeqetelebab. The Book of Remembrance of Melchizedek is “a record written upon stone tablets, by Melchizedek, son of Noah” (Melchizedek, title page).
His Birth and His Grandfather Rak
He was born in the snow, in the dwelling of his mother Emzara’s parents, Rak and Bayith, built against a cliff. The Lord called Rak by his name Ayleeyah, “one who goes before the Lord,” and said, “You must go now and breathe the breath of life into the child, for you are needed to prepare the way before him.” Rak held the infant “and breathed the breath of life into the child… and it is Melchizedek” (Melchizedek 9:6–9). Rak said, “Anokeesed desires that the breath of this child and mine are one breath.” His father Noah was an albino who “could not walk among the Eerkodeshiy as freely in the sunlight,” and he embraced Rak and said, “I praise the God of heaven that you are here for my son… and Noah was a very tender father” (Melchizedek 9:10–11).
Why He Was Called Shem
“He is called Shem to strangers in order to protect him from evil persons.” Rak advised “that the child be referred to as Shem, which means simply the name, to safeguard him from the evil forces of the world by hiding his true name before the Lord” (Melchizedek 9:12–13). As a youth he was taught by the Eerkodeshiy, “known to be one who is referred to as a Zakari. Enoch was a Zakari” (Melchizedek 9:14).
He has three names: “we call the son of Noah Melchizedek, but man calls him Shem, and Anokeesed calls him Michael” (Melchizedek 4:11). See Melchizedek.
Shum, His Wife
When they met, she laughed: “You are called the name, and I am called Shum, which is the same name. They call me Shum to hide my name Zedeqetelebab that Anokeesed gave me” (Melchizedek 9:109). At their espousal Shem gave her a small loaf of bread and a preserved fish: “I want you to be always like the bread, to join me to the spirit of the life of Motsah who is in all things” (Melchizedek 9:150–151). Their wedding was held at the stream where Rak taught him, and the Eerkodeshiy presided (Melchizedek 9:217–221). “Sedeqetelebab is the rib of this Melchizedek, for the righteousness of God that her husband established is as a treasure hidden in her heart” (I Achee 1:49).
He Wrote on Stone
Shem found the rock for his tablets on a ledge: “What a marvelous thing, the rocks of the tablets sought me out, and I thought that I was seeking them.” He thanked the spirit of Ebedel, and “asked them if they wanted to go on a journey because they had never traveled before,” then shaped them in the stream (Melchizedek 9:193–195). He later buried tablets and records “where Goker Harim I was led to discover them” (I Achee 11:83).
Fifth of the High Priest Communities
Shem is fifth in the order of the 24 High Priest Communities. “Shem had given Him a new name and called Him The Prince of the Host, and Shem was the brother of mountains, even the Mount Pethach obeyed him” (I Achee 2:101). His Watcher-brother is Malakiel, “Reign of God,” who teaches faith and worship (Handbook p. 518). “Shem called forth and established the eternal nature of Messiah, and he set into motion the concept of continuing religious ceremony and personal revelation in Shabuwa” (I Achee 2:102). His community established the church and religious ceremony, which allowed Christ to govern all things and to establish the definitions of righteousness, or more simply said, “to be righteous” (Achee, Appendix p. 659).
On Mount Pethach
Nearly a year after the waters abated, Shem and Sedeqetelebab went up on Mount Pethach and prepared an altar; “it did not flood Anach for the sake of Enoch.” There “Shem who is known to the Eerkodeshoi as Michael the Prince” blew the Trump of Summons and called forth the Eerkodeshoi to covenant seven times (I Achee 1:41–42). “Shabuwa is when Shem had the Eerkodeshoi choose in relation to Motsah the Lamb” (Enoch, Bedal 8:20 n. 113). The full account is under Shabuwa.
Grandfather of Achee
“There could be no man greater than this man Shem among all the sons of men save Messiah” (I Achee 1:50). “Shem kept this year by year,” and when Achee was twelve, Shem took him up Mount Pethach, repaired the altar and renewed Shabuwa from the rising to the setting of the sun; “Achee was taught all things by his grandfather” (I Achee 1:63–64). The Trump of Shem was handed down to Achee there and became “the most sacred possession of all the element of righteousness he received” (I Achee 11:88).
