Pronunciation: YOOR-im and THOO-mim
How It Speaks
The Urim and Thummim speaks through light — tongues of fire rising from stones before the congregation, as the Dead Sea Scrolls fragments still bear witness. It is not cast or thrown. It reveals.
Its Form
Urim means “lights” — three tongues of fire, given as two stones exceeding white and clear. Thummim means “perfections” — shaped as a cross, with extensions of a special wood and a gold cross at its center, holding the Urim before the High Priest’s face without his touch, for even a High Priest carries sin. The Breastplate bears twelve stones engraved with ancient Hebrew characters, representing the twelve gifts Christ gave His Father and placed into all creation. Through it He is felt personally.
How One Must Come to It
Whoever uses it must first come free of sin, through a sacred plant dried and ground and held in prayer, a token that His forgiveness is adequate. If it is touched by accident, it stops. Used rightly, it shows two things: how the Father sees man in loving him despite his sin, and how He reveals Himself to man.
Also Called
It is also known as the Breastplate of Judgement.
